The project is situated in the town’s newer sections, which primarily feature two-story buildings from the 1960s and 1970s. Despite the anonymity of the surrounding fabric, the home preserves the original layout of traditional local houses, typically composed of a corridor that separates the rooms while saving a portion of greenery in the innermost part of the lots. This design grants each home an internal garden, often cultivated and enclosed by white lime walls.

Peering beyond the simplistic facades adorned with round arches and classical cornices, one discovers older constructions utilizing traditional building methods, including vaulted ceilings supported by load-bearing walls. This craftsmanship provides a subtle defiance against contemporary construction practices dominated by concrete, resulting in unique and robust interior spaces where light enters through carefully placed openings.

The project extensively uses Lecce stone, a warm-white sedimentary rock commonly found in Salento's historical architecture. This material serves multiple purposes within the design, including terracing, stair construction, indoor flooring, and custom furniture, thanks to its durability and water-resistant properties when used outdoors.

Originally, the house comprised four rooms with star-vaulted ceilings centered around a corridor but had been altered over time with additions that encroached on the garden space. The renovation aims to highlight the building’s original features by removing later modifications and reconfiguring the layout to create two distinct wings with direct access to the courtyard.

A new skylight over the main entrance introduces abundant natural light, transforming the central corridor into a luminous bridge between the bright exterior and the subdued garden light. The loggia, now openly connected to the entrance, becomes a pivotal area for relaxation, especially in the warmer months.
