In August 2017, Al-Jawad Pike was appointed by the London Borough of Hackney to design a new housing development on an infill site adjacent to Daubeney Road. This project includes 11 high-quality homes designated for affordable and social rent, replacing the existing garages and informal car parking on the site. The development features a mix of two- and three-bedroom houses, as well as one fully accessible four-bedroom family house. Completed in the summer of 2022, the new pedestrian street connecting the area has been named Chowdhury Walk.
The design of the development harmonizes with the urban fabric of the surrounding terraced rows along Redwald Road and Colne Road. Its layout features a staggered plan, incorporating carved entrances that add architectural character, reduce overlooking of neighboring properties, and orient the front doors toward Daubeney Road.
Constructed from red brick, the houses feature mono-pitched roofs and a robust base plinth adorned with planters made from large-format granite blocks. The grey base complements the cobbled finish of the new cycle and pedestrian route that traverses the site, creating a cohesive and inviting environment.
