Set on a raised peninsula formed by converging canyons, these floating pavilions provide an immersive experience where guests can enjoy mesmerizing views of the canyon scenery and the confluence of the Rio Blanco and Rio Perdido. Historically remote due to limited access, this pristine area has been transformed into a tranquil sanctuary that highlights Costa Rica's rich natural beauty and untouched landscapes.
The West Bungalows are conceived as floating structures supported on slender pilotis, allowing water, wildlife, and the landscape to flow unimpeded beneath. Frameless glass walls offer panoramic views and create a sense of unity with nature, while a strategically positioned stone wall serves as a privacy barrier and a grounding element that echoes the region’s topography and cultural heritage. The design expertly balances contemporary comfort with an authentic tropical aesthetic, featuring expansive terraces, outdoor showers, and a carefully curated interior by interior designer Dania Saragovia. The warm palette, natural textures, and woven elements foster a welcoming and cohesive environment, immersing guests in the region's cultural and natural essence.
Sustainability is at the heart of the project, emphasizing a minimal environmental footprint. The bungalows hover above the ground to preserve natural water flow and local wildlife, and their long overhangs are designed to reduce heat gain and protect against heavy rains, promoting passive cooling. Constructed with locally sourced wood, stone, and regional materials, each structure adapts to the terrain’s varying elevations through prefabrication techniques that minimize ecological disruption. The result is a contemporary tropical architecture that embodies a “light-touch” philosophy, harmoniously coexisting with Costa Rica’s delicate ecosystem while offering a luxurious yet environmentally conscious retreat for eco-minded travelers seeking a genuine connection with nature.
