Fossilized Future

"Fossilized Future" is a thought-provoking collection of furniture that embarks on a journey through time, envisioning how the resources and creations of our contemporary society may be perceived by future generations. As the materials we use today begin to fossilize, this collection prompts us to reflect on the lasting impact of our choices and creations.

The essence of "Fossilized Future" lies in reimagining fossils not merely as remnants of the past but as metaphors that bridge the past and the future. This perspective invites us to contemplate how the artifacts of our present will shape the narratives of tomorrow. By envisioning furniture as future fossils, we gain a unique vantage point to survey our current existence through the lens of time.

The pieces within this collection are crafted from contemporary materials sourced from our daily lives. For instance, wood from local forests, affected by oak wilt disease, brings forth the idea of natural resources in a state of decline. Additionally, soil-like materials gathered from the surrounding areas consist of not only essential minerals and charcoal, components of the earth, but also everyday organic waste such as rice husks, leftover coffee grounds, and vegetable peels. These materials serve as a testament to our daily experiences and the traces we leave behind.

Through a process of experimentation and development, the designer has elevated these materials into a new composite, referred to as "contemporary soil." This innovative creation embodies the intersection of nature and human ingenuity, challenging conventional notions of sustainability and resource usage.

The furniture pieces are formed from large blocks of this unique material, meticulously crafted by the designer and shaped with a chainsaw. This cutting technique mirrors the excavation of fossils, revealing cross-sections that showcase the layered histories embedded within. Each piece becomes a discovery, preserving the natural elements and organic remnants as they are unearthed.

"Fossilized Future" invites us to ponder the significance of our present actions and creations. By envisioning our current resources as future fossils, we not only acknowledge their inevitable transformation but also recognize our role in shaping the future landscape. This collection bridges the gap between what is seen and what is unseen, prompting a deeper understanding of our connection to the environment and the legacy we will leave behind.
