The Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Osaka, is a striking architectural expression of life energy and continuous growth. Its centerpiece is a dynamic, spiraling walkway that winds around the building over 260 meters, rising through four levels to an observation roof. This movement symbolizes personal and societal development, inviting visitors to explore both bodily and mental engagement.
Constructed primarily from glass and wood, the pavilion pays homage to Czech glassmaking traditions, with a transparent façade that allows natural light to transform the interior atmosphere throughout the day. The structure’s fluid form, which expands upward and becomes elliptical at higher floors, creates an inspiring silhouette that seemingly defies gravity and invites contemplation.
At the summit, a ramp leads to a panoramic VIP lounge overlooking the sea, while interior spaces such as a multifunctional auditorium serve cultural performances, lectures, and events. The auditorium’s black box design is flexible, with seating and spaces arranged along a circular ramp that follows the spiral path. This versatile layout enables seamless or separated use, accommodating various programmatic needs.
Exposed cross-laminated spruce CLT panels define the structural system, highlighting natural materials and craftsmanship. The pavilion’s expressive form, combined with immersive multimedia art installations—ranging from monumental sculptures to narrative compositions and contemporary artworks—creates a space that celebrates innovation, heritage, and collective aspiration. Situated on a welcoming wooden deck, the pavilion invites visitors to reflect, engage, and immerse themselves in a vibrant cultural experience.
