FORMWORK
Switzerland, Lausanne

in 2023
This minimalist furniture collection, created by Lausanne-based designer Gini Moynier for NOV Gallery, embraces reclaimed timber as a valuable raw material, offering an alternative to reduce virgin wood consumption in the furniture industry.

The collection's unique aesthetic features a wooden patchwork layout, using spruce as a vertical and structural element and oak for its durability and visual appeal. The resulting pieces present a graphical yet elegant design, blending traditional and contemporary woodworking techniques.

Comprising a chair, a wall-mounted shelf, and a side table, the three pieces are inspired by the structures found in the timber formworking process, which is used to cast concrete on building sites.

The chair is assembled from simple wood planks, referencing ancient seating archetypes while incorporating CNC milling techniques to explore modern visual languages. The side table features a radical volume that highlights the natural beauty of the material, with a discreet slit for book storage. The wall-mounted shelf includes a central pillar, reminiscent of the exo-structures used in concrete casting, creating dynamic shadows throughout the day.
