Kryss is a Swedish company founded in 2025 by designer Svea Tisell, dedicated to exploring the potential of a single material through experimental three-dimensional forms. The company's Entwined Objects project employs the Multiweave technique to investigate how a simple material like rope can be transformed into self-supporting furniture, emphasizing adaptability, material efficiency, and functional design.

The Multiweave technique is a three-dimensional weaving method that allows rope to create rigid, freestanding structures without the need for additional framing. Inspired by the shifting tension of knots, Kryss pieces adapt to weight and movement, subtly responding to their environment. The process begins with a single rope sourced from reclaimed climbing materials or surplus shoelace production, resulting in a mono-material construction that remains fully recyclable. At the end of its lifecycle, the structure can be disassembled by untying the finishing knot, allowing the rope to be repurposed.

Kryss employs the Multiweave technique, originally developed by Estonian textile artist Kadi Pajupuu, to shift the role of textiles in furniture design from a decorative or supportive element to a primary structural component. A specialized weaving tool supports this process, consisting of a platform with 345 conduits that guide the rope into position. Once the weaving is complete, the conduits are removed, leaving a rigid, freestanding form. The tool is reusable, enabling consistent and scalable production.

In the Entwined Objects series, Kryss redefines textiles in furniture design. For example, the lounge chair conforms gradually to the user’s shape, providing a flexible yet stable seating experience. Similarly, the shelving system interacts with the objects placed upon it, reshaping subtly under their weight. This approach highlights textiles as dynamic, load-bearing materials, expanding their use beyond conventional soft furnishings. By integrating sustainability with material innovation, Kryss presents a design process where structure and surface are inherently linked. Through Multiweave, textiles serve as both form and framework, showcasing new possibilities for mono-material, adaptable furniture.
