Alloa Hills Weekend Home
India, Gandhinagar
completed
The Alloa Hills Weekend Home exemplifies a design approach rooted in harmony with nature, sustainability, and spatial flexibility. Central to the layout is an open courtyard that seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor living, extending into a versatile terrace ideal for performances or stargazing, fostering a sanctuary of tranquility for both the owners and visiting creatives.

Sustainability is a core principle, reflected in the use of recycled compressed bricks formed from waste materials from brick kilns, paired with terracotta finishes that unify the aesthetic and material palette. These choices not only reduce environmental impact but also create a cohesive, warm atmosphere that blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces.

The design incorporates deep verandahs on both sides, providing shade, protection from the elements, and natural ventilation. When opened up, the structure transforms into a pavilion-like space, allowing breezes to circulate freely. Natural light plays an active role, with morning sunlight flooding the interiors and evening light reflected inward from the courtyard, creating a dynamic and multilayered light experience throughout the day. This approach offers a compelling example for architects aiming to craft environmentally conscious, experiential, and contextually integrated places.
